La hambruna del continente africano da a Harry Belafonte la idea de hacer una campaña de recaudación con fines humanitarios en Gran Bretaña, en 1984, con la canción “Do they know it´s Christmas?”(¿Conocen la Navidad?)
En 1985, la idea traspasa fronteras hasta EEUU y Lionel Richie junto a Michael Jackson escriben “We are the World” para la campaña USA for Africa.
Más de 50 millones de dólares fueron recaudados… queremos creernos que todos los beneficios llegaron a su justo destino… porque la hambruna continúa en nuestros tiempos...
