I come from down in the valley…………………..Vengo de abajo del valle

Me and Mary we met...................... Mary y yo nos conocimos
in high school…………….....................en secundaria
when she was just seventeen …………………….cuando ella sólo tenía 17 años
we'd ride out of that valley down………………….nos fuimos valle abajo
to where the fields were green…………………..donde los campos eran verdes.
We'd go down to the river………………………….Bajamos por el río
and into the river we'd dive ………………………y dentro del río buceamos
oh down to the river we'd ride …………………oh, paseamos bajo el río
then I got Mary pregnant.....................entonces Mary se quedó embarazada
and man that was all she wrote…………………y tío, eso fue todo lo que ella escribió.
And for my nineteen birthday………………… Y para mi 19 cumpleaños
I got a union card...............................sólo tenía una tarjeta de sindicato
and a wedding coat …............................y una chaqueta de boda
we went down to the courthouse……………….fuimos al juzgado

I got a job working construction ………………Conseguí un trabajo en la construcción
for the Johnstown Company ……………………......para la Compañía Johnstown
but lately there ain't been much work……..pero últimamente no hay mucho trabajo
on account of the economy ……………………….por razón de la economía.
Now all them things that seemed...............Ahora que todas las cosas parecían

Mary acts like...................................Mary hace como
she don't care……………………........................... que no le importa.
But I remember us riding……………………………. Pero recuerdo que viajábamos
in my brother's car ………………………………………en el coche de mi hermano
her body tan and wet down……….su cuerpo bronceado y húmedo abajo
at the reservoir …………………………………………..en el embalse.
At night on them banks……………………………….Por la noche, en la orilla
I'd lie awake ………………………………………………..me tumbé despierto
and pull her close just to feel……….. y la acerqué hasta mí
each breath she'd take ……………………………..para sentirla respirar a mi lado.
Now those memories………………………………….... Ahora esos recuerdos
come back to haunt me, ……………………………..se vuelven contra mí
they haunt me like a curse ………para atraparme como una maldición.
